If you’re anything like me, finishing Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros left you in a state of emotional recovery. You devoured every page, fell in love with Xaden Riorson, and now you’re left wondering what on earth to do with your life until the next book comes out. Don’t worry—I’ve got you. Here are 10 fantasy romance books to read after the Fourth Wing series, packed with dragons, enemies to lovers, strong heroines, and addictive world-building. Whether you’re here for the enemies-to-lovers tension, the morally gray love interest, or the slow burn that made you want to scream into your pillow—this list is for you.

How Many Books Will Be in the Fourth Wing Series?

Rebecca Yarros has confirmed that The Empyrean series will consist of five books total. With Fourth Wing, Iron Flame, and Onyx Storm already out, we still have two more books to go. So, while we count down the days until book four, these romantasy reads will help keep the magic alive.

What to read after Onyx Storm

1. A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

If you haven’t already jumped on the ACOTAR train, this is your sign. ACOTAR’s story is fantasy romance perfection, with major Fourth Wing energy—magical training, epic battles, and a love with faes that will make you swoon. If you loved Xaden Riorson in Fourth Wing, you will absolutely love Rhysand and the bat boys in the ACOTAR series. The series has 5 books released already and more to come.

2. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

If you loved ACOTAR, diving into Maas’ other popular series, Throne of Glass, is a natural next step. It is actually SJ Maas’ first fantasy series and a lot of readers have read TG before ACOTAR even came out. It follows an assassin with a tragic past, a kingdom full of secrets, and a romance that slowly builds across multiple books. Expect high-stakes fantasy, badass female leads, and a character arc that will emotionally destroy you in the best way. This is my all-time favorite book series and I wish I could read it again for the first time. If you want to know in what order to read Throne of Glass, check out our reading guide here.

3. Powerless by Lauren Roberts

If what you loved most about Fourth Wing was the tension-filled romance, then Powerless should be at the top of your list. This viral BookTok romantasy features classic tropes like enemies to lovers, forced proximity, dagger-to-the-throat, who did this to you and a very slow burn. Think Red Queen meets The Hunger Games, but with more flirting. Kai Azer might even compete with Xaden for your favorite book boyfriend. Check out our full review of Powerless here.

4. Crescent City Series by Sarah J. Maas

Another masterpiece by Maas and her most recent series, Crescent City combines urban fantasy with intricate world-building and compelling characters. It is a fusion of Maas’s signature prose with urban and modern fantasy and it might just be her best writing yet in my opinion. The Crescent City series by Sarah J. Maas is a thrilling urban fantasy saga set in a modern, magical city teeming with fantastical creatures from angeles, faes, demons and everything in between.

5. Caraval Series by Stephanie Garber

The Caraval series by Stephanie Garber is a captivating fantasy trilogy about two sisters, Scarlett and Donatella Dragna, who escape their oppressive father to attend Caraval. Caraval is a magical, immersive performance where the audience participates in the show. When Tella is kidnapped as part of the game, Scarlett must navigate Caraval’s enchanting and perilous world to rescue her sister. As the series unfolds, the plot focuses on Tella’s own adventures and the enigmatic master of Caraval, Legend. The story is filled with breathtaking twists, enchanting settings, and a captivating romance, making it a mesmerizing tale of sisterhood, bravery, and the power of magic.

6. Once Upon a Broken Heart Series by Stephanie Garber

A spin-off from the Caraval series, this new adventure follows Evangeline Fox as she deals with heartbreak and discovers new magic and mysteries. The Once Upon a Broken Heart series by Stephanie Garber follows the enchanting journey of Evangeline Fox, who makes a dangerous deal with the mysterious Prince of Hearts to mend her broken heart. In exchange for her soul, Evangeline embarks on a quest through a magical and perilous world to fulfill three impossible tasks and win back her true love. The Once Upon a Broken Heart series blends fantasy, romance, and adventure into a mesmerizing tale of resilience, magic, and the quest for redemption. This whole series was so addictive and refreshing, the romance and tension was top-tier.

7. The Cruel Prince by Holly Black

Step into the dangerous world of faerie politics in this captivating fantasy series. Jude, a mortal girl, is determined to prove her worth among the cunning and cruel fae, particularly Prince Cardan. Their love-hate relationship is filled with tension, banter, and unexpected twists, making this a must-read for fans of romantasy books and fae fantasy novels. Jude and Carden are real enemies and this is definitely a slow burn enemies to lovers trope.

8. From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout

This bestselling romantasy is the perfect starting point for fans of enemies-to-lovers romance. The story follows Poppy, a maiden who is forbidden from experiencing life outside her sheltered role, and Hawke, her enigmatic guard. As secrets unravel, the lines between enemy and ally blur, leading to an epic tale of forbidden love, betrayal, and destiny. This is one of the best enemies-to-lovers fantasy books for romantasy fans.

9. Quicksilver by R.J. Anderson

This unique romantasy brings together a fast-paced plot, intricate world-building, and romance that begins with animosity but evolves into something much deeper. I would not say this is a real enemies to lovers trope – more of a forced reluctant allies to lovers. Fans of character-driven fantasy books with a touch of enemies-to-lovers romance will adore this novel.

10. The Crimson Moth by Kristen Ciccarelli

A hidden gem in the romantasy genre, The Crimson Moth features a fierce heroine and a brooding enemy turned reluctant ally. Enemies-to-lovers doesn’t get more high stakes than a witch and a witch hunter falling in love. This book offers a perfect blend of action, magic, and a captivating enemies-to-lovers romance, making it a must-read for fans of fantasy romance recommendations.

12. The Serpent and the Wings of Night by Carissa Broadbent

In this dark romantasy, Oraya, the adopted daughter of the vampire king, must compete in a deadly tournament to secure her survival. Along the way, she forms a tense alliance with Raihn, a rival contender. Their relationship crackles with tension, making this a standout among vampire romance and enemies-to-lovers fantasy novels. This was not the realest enemies to lovers trope as Oraya and Raihn were not rival for long but it was still an addictive story.

12. The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

For something a little different but just as addictive, this series mixes mystery, puzzles, and romance in a high-stakes competition. There are no dragons, but the tension and clever plot twists deliver.

13. Red Queen Series by Victoria Aveyard

Enter a world where blood color determines fate. The “Red Queen” series by Victoria Aveyard follows Mare Barrow, a young girl living in a world divided by blood: those with common Red blood and the elite with Silver blood who possess superhuman abilities. Mare, a Red, discovers she has a powerful ability of her own, which thrusts her into the dangerous world of the Silvers. Pretending to be a long-lost Silver princess, she becomes involved in a rebellion against the oppressive regime.

14. The War of Lost Hearts Series by Carissa Broadbent

Tisaanah was stolen from her village as a child and sold into slavery. Her whole life goal is buy back her freedom from her master. One day, she escapes and her goal is then to become strong enough and go back to save all the ones she left behind during her escape. It is definitely not a book for everyone as it is very violent but the world building, character development and slow burn romance is definitely worth the read.
