Everything We Know About ACOTAR 6: The Sixth Book in A Court of Thorns And Roses series
Sarah J. Maas Just Finished the Draft of ACOTAR Book 6 – Here’s What We Know So Far
It’s official: Sarah J. Maas has sent the ACOTAR fandom into full meltdown mode. After four long years of waiting, the author just announced she’s finished writing the draft of A Court of Thorns and Roses book 6 and fans can barely contain their excitement.
On Instagram, Maas shared a short but dramatic video that drove readers absolutely wild. In the clip, she’s seen shutting a notebook labeled “ACOTAR 6” – complete with a mysterious symbol fans can’t quite agree on – before closing her laptop and popping a bottle of champagne in celebration. “First drafts DONE,” she captioned the video. It’s the update everyone has been hoping for since the release of A Court of Silver Flames in 2021.
When Is The ACOTAR Book 6 Release Date?
As of now, there’s no official release date for ACOTAR book 6. Some fans are hoping it might drop by late 2025 – maybe around the winter solstice to fit the series’ seasonal themes. But considering we’re already midway through 2025 and the book is still in draft form, it could be more realistic to expect an early 2026 release.
In even more exciting news, Maas’ publisher Bloomsbury announced last year that she signed a new four-book deal, on top of the three books she already had under contract. That means we can look forward to seven new books from Sarah J. Maas over the next few years- plenty to keep us busy.
What Will ACOTAR Book 6 Be About?
Right now, there’s no official word on the plot of book six. But many fans believe the next installment will finally focus on Elain Archeron, the third Archeron sister. The first two books centered on Feyre, while the last spin-off was about Nesta, which makes Elain the natural next choice.
There are still plenty of unanswered questions about Elain’s story. Readers are dying to know more about the full extent of her cauldron-blessed powers- and, of course, her complicated love life. Will she find herself in a forbidden romance with Azriel? Will she finally accept her mating bond with Lucien? Or could Maas throw us all off by pairing Elain with someone unexpected, like Tamlin from the Spring Court, given her love of gardening and all things floral?
It wouldn’t be a total shock. Sarah J. Maas has previously hinted in interviews and bonus materials that a book about Elain was planned. And knowing Maas, it’s “no surprise, it’s going to be a long book,” as she teased back in December 2022.
What to Read Before ACOTAR 6 Release
If you haven’t caught up with Maas’ other series yet, now is the perfect time. The third Crescent City book, House of Flame and Shadow, released in early 2024 and included a game-changing crossover with the ACOTAR world, featuring Nesta and others. To really appreciate what’s coming next, many fans recommend reading both Crescent City and Throne of Glass before ACOTAR book 6.
If you have already read those books, I would highly suggest a re-read as you probably read them long ago.
